On vacations, day-trips, weekend trips, or any type of adventure, my father used to make my sister and I pose for pictures for hours and hours with no end in sight. I quickly realized that if I had the camera, he couldn’t take the pictures and thus began my love for the camera. I love documenting everything, whether it would be through writing or drawing but my preferred choice of recording every fleeting moment is photographing. I am a self-taught, natural light photographer with an emphasis in portraits. My goal is to capture the essence and atmosphere of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, one portrait at a time.

Sarah He transferred from the University of Chicago and is currently a junior at UNC-Chapel Hill. She is majoring in English and minoring in Creative Writing and Writing for the Screen and Stage. Besides running around campus trying to make it class on time, she enjoys hiding away in a book, sleeping in bed, and cooking fresh meals. Occasionally she will emerge from the her cave (that is her apartment) and frantically write at a coffee shop (besides Starbucks), go to theater events and hang out with friends. She is excited about all the opportunities for growth and learning on campus and finding interesting spots all over Chapel Hill, Carrboro and surrounding areas to explore.

Sean Henderson is currently a Junior Transfer coming to UNC from Rockingham Community College. He spent two years living on his own in order to get an Associate of Arts degree, gain responsibility and leadership experience, and to play college caliber baseball. Sean grew up in Winston-Salem and was a full IB student at Parkland High School in Forsyth County. Sean is very passionate about motivating and encouraging others. He believes that his calling in life is to inspire and empower others, and he wishes to go into the career field of International Business and Policy in order to fulfill his grand ambitions and dreams. Sean hopes that he will help others with the transition to UNC by writing about what he has learned from his experiences, as well as by encouraging his fellow students to approach each day with a positive mindset!

My name is Smith Ngeve, and I am a pre-med Biology major. I am a Junior transfer from Durham Tech, and this is my first semester here at UNC Chapel Hill. It’s been a wonderful experience here. I’m loving it. I like playing soccer, and the piano. (I like playing… maybe…)

I am originally from Cameroon – way in the heart of central Africa, where I spent most of my time growing up. I moved here in August 2012; and for two years, I was busy climbing steps towards my associate degree, which enabled me to be a Junior Tar Heel, a C-STEP student, and a covenant scholar. I like that I’m one of the bloggers here – leaving my heel print, and I hope to share my writings with you!

Hey y’all!  My name is Kendra Orr and I’m a senior here at UNC.  I became a Tarheel last year as a junior after transferring from a community college back home.  I’m a small town, southern girl who transitioned from living on a farm to living on campus here in Chapel Hill.  I’m also a first-generation college student, a Carolina Covenant scholar, and a C-Step Peer Mentor.  I’ve experienced both wonderful and not-so-great moments here at Carolina, but all of them have allowed me to become the person I am today.  If you’re looking for stories from someone who has lived through some memorable moments, including streakers in a lecture hall and an Undie Run on south campus…I’m your girl!

Life is way too short to take yourself seriously. I think the best moments in life are actually when we take a step back and realize just how ridiculous we were in a situation. It’s those moments where we recount the words that we just spoke—or look back at what we just did—and can’t help but say REALLY? to ourselves. We’ve all had these moments. Half the time I can’t tell whether someone is laughing with me or at me, but at least they’re laughing. If you want, read Awkward Encounters, where I’ll write about situations like when your job interviewer has an allergic reaction to your cologne, or when you accidentally sneeze on that newly introduced person you had such elaborate plans to be best friends for life with.

This is my first year at UNC Chapel Hill, where I will be majoring in history. I transferred from University of Delaware, and I am from Brick, New Jersey.

Native of the foothills in western North Carolina, I’m now a resident of Carrboro and a second semester Junior (as of Spring 2015). I’ve been told I was born in the wrong generation because most of my favorite music is 20+ years older than I am will, however, always have a soft spot in m heart for “hair” metal from the 80s and early 90s. I love it when it rains; it’t so relaxing to me (a good thing too because it rains A LOT in Chapel Hill!). I lived in Dallas, Texas for three years before coming back to North Carolina to earn two Associates degrees and transferring here to UNC. I miss the year-long warmth that DFW offered. You can find me in the community scouting new food and micro-brews, at Vinyl Perk in Carrboro drinking coffee and buying new records, or I’ll be at home working on a new craft project. Take care and always remember: live free, live fun, and the Dude abides.
